Declaration of Independence from the Health Care System
by Ben D. Kennedy |
On July 4, 1776, the American Declaration of Independence was signed because the people living in the thirteen colonies of America at the time declared that they would no longer be ruled by a tyrannical government that was interested more in money than in what was best for the people. You are probably wondering what the American Declaration of Independence has to do with Nutrition & Health, but if you will bear with me for a moment, I think you will see that Americans today are living under a similarly tyrannical health care system that also cares more about money than what is best for the people. As the Americans did in 1776, led by author Thomas Jefferson and many other brave patriots, I think it is time that we make a Declaration of Independence from this terrible health care system that destroys the health of so many Americans. What follows is my attempt to create a Declaration of Independence from the Health Care System. I can only hope that it will inspire some of the same passion that the American Declaration of Independence was able to inspire in the courageous people that liberated themselves from Great Britain and established the greatest form of government on Earth.

This article may seem whimsical to some but the point I am trying to make is that we live under a terrible health care system that cares nothing about preventing illness and maintaining health but instead preys upon the weak and sick to profit from their misery. The only hope of changing such a system is to have a revolution similar to the American Revolution that established these United States of America. I encourage anyone who is fed up with the current health care system to print out this declaration, sign it and send it to your representatives in Congress. What is even more important is that everyone realize that because of the American Declaration of Independence and another document called the U. S. Constitution, you have the right as a citizen of the United States to make your own decisions regarding your health care and so far The Health Care System has been unable to totally usurp that right (although they are trying harder and harder every day).
